As you look through my family portrait packages, you can see that all my packages include digital image downloads. I do this for a few different reasons, but one of my main reasons that I want your experience with me to be super easy and the most convenient for you. Lately I have had quite a few people asking for prints so I may in the future change to a slightly different model to better fit my clientele, but for at least this year I will continue to only sell the digital images. So the question is where exactly should I get my digital images printed at?
The place I suggest all of my customers to order their prints from is www.mpix.com. They also own a national printing lab and I have excellent results and experience with them. I print my own orders through them as well. Their colors are very true to your digitals and they are reasonably priced. Below I will show you my latest purchase and all of the pricing and options I added on for my order.
My gorgeous daughter just had her third birthday and her birthday party is this weekend. For her South Jersey children’s birthday party, I of course, needed to print out one of the images from her birthday portrait session to display at her party. My favorite turned out to be this images of her blowing glitter. She looks like such a little princess and she loves the photo. Every little girl deserves to feel like a princess every once in a while!
The left is the original photo and the second is a picture taken of the printed photo. Please remember since the printed photo is 8 x 10 the dimensions are a bit different
I order an 8 x 10 in their metallic paper. I choose this because I really wanted her image to feel magical but for the most part you will probably just want to choose their regular paper. I also added their lustre coating to make sure the paper lasts longer and is more resistant to finger prints. The total for this was $3.73. There are many times coupons on retailmenot.com and the other coupon sites so make sure to check them out. The shipping was another $3.95 for economy 10 day shipping and brought my total for this order to $7.31 which is not bad at all for a quality print and this included upgraded paper and a finish!
Finally, during one of the steps it asks if you would like color correction on your photo. I suggest not adding this as their lab will change the colors to what they think looks better so your photo won’t be as close to your digital image. If you want the closest colors to the image you have, click that you do not want this feature.
Also let me explain how great their shipping is. I ordered on Monday late in the day and they processed and printed on Tuesday and it was delivered Friday morning. This was supposed to be 10 day shipping, but as you can see it came so much more quickly! Not bad at all!
So the moral of this story is make sure you spend a little bit more on your photos for quality prints. I have had some past customers come to me saying that they printed at an hour photo at one of the chain pharmacies and that the coloring is completely off. Now unfortunates that customer has a print they do not like and will spend extra money to get another print at mpix.com.
