A Little Bit About Us
Salwach Photography is the premier South Jersey newborn, child and family photographer specializing in natural light portraits serving all of South Jersey and parts of the Philly region. We capture moments that will last forever including babies’ milestone packages and children’s first birthday cake smashes. We are an on location photographer based out of Sicklerville, NJ serving South Jersey residents.
I do not just capture pictures, but special moments that are frozen in time and will be something you will look back on forever. They are timeless photos that will always have a special place in your heart.
Its not just about taking your photo, but giving you an amazing experience. From the very beginning to the end, you will feel like you are in the right hands. One of my 6 year old clients held my hand after her photo shoot and told me “You are the funnest person to ever take my picture” If that doesn’t sum up how you can expect your experience to be, I’m not sure what can.
I make it my mission to have your photo be worth a thousand words and give you an unforgettable experience…

I’ve been anticipating the blooming of the cherry blossom trees for months now. Their beautiful pink petals are captivating and I knew I needed to have a session with these magical trees. In our South Jersey region the best time for the cherry blossom trees is around the last week in April as they are normally in their peak bloom and absolutely gorgeous!
So I decided to take my lovely daughter and her best friend Greyson out for a quick session. I love the bond these two have together! They’ve know each other for about a year now, but they seem like they’ve been together since birth. They seriously may be the cutest ever and I have secret plans that they will marry when they are older 😉
Being children, they weren’t very cooperative except at the beginning of the session. I always feel it’s so much harder to photograph your own children as they never behave as well for you as for someone else, but we got some amazing shots right at the beginning before they decided they no longer liked the camera. Little buggers!!
I’m thinking of having mini cherry blossom sessions next year and hope that some of you will join me. As always feel free to comment and let me know in any type of session you may be interested in.
Look how smooth and creamy his skin tone is! I tried out a new type of skin editing technique called frequency separation. The reason this technique works so well is the fact that it keeps the texture of the skin on a separate layer so that you don’t lose the important overall quality and texture of the skin. That way when editing the skin doesn’t look like a dolls, but rather an unblemished version of your own skin!
I’m going to use this type of skin editing for all of my close up portraits as I’m in love with the final results. Do you love it as much as I do?
As for open sessions, I am booked through out May though if you’re looking for something during the week I may be able to squeeze a session in. I already have a few bookings sold out in August so if you are looking for something during the summer let me know soon so that you get your ideal time and location. I hope to see you soon!

Hellene’s Junior Prom, A South Jersey Senior Photographer
Last weekend was a crazy, but good crazy kind of weekend! On Friday, I took this gorgeous teenager’s junior prom photos. On Saturday, I had two sessions including Melina’s baptism and then a 80th birthday party. Sunday, was amazing meeting up with my May bride and meeting her fiance for the first time at a local Starbucks.
This amazing young lady who attends Timber Creek Regional High School in Gloucester Township in Sickerville, NJ. Hellene is a member of the Nation Honor Society, a free style swimmer with the swim team and while keeping all her school work straight also works part-time. In her free time she enjoys playing soccer, hanging out with her family and swimming in their outdoor pool. Hellene already has high goals in life and is looking at becoming a surgeon.
I have known Hellene now for about a year and I can honestly say I am so glad to know her. She always steps up to a leadership role and is the first to make things happen. Not only that, but she has an amazing heart. Hellene is a fashionista and loves bright colors with lots of bling.
I love working with teenagers as they have such creative ideas and they aren’t stiff in front of the camera. They know the camera loves them and gives the camera love right back! A big part of her life includes her Dominican heritage, which I can’t wait to find ways to incorporate into her senior session which we’ve scheduled for this Summer.
As you can see, she has many close friends as her vibrant personality seems to just attract others. How cute is the way Hellene’s prom date, Terrin asked her to prom?!?! I can’t get over how cute these prom-posals are! Terrin dressed up like a bunny and visited her house with this super cute sign that says, “I want to go to Prom with SomeBunny like you!”
Below is one of Hellene’s best friends, Marissa. Doesn’t she just look like a movie star?!?! These girls I swear are just gorgeous!
Going through these images was extremely hard, as you can see, and I wanted to keep them all to post! I avoided that, of course, but it was a close call to having a million pictures on here!
Juniors now is the time to schedule your Senior session! If you are looking for a senior photographer in South Jersey, make sure to contact me! Spring and Fall are the most popular times for Senior photography and slots fill up very quickly.

I am a firm believer that parents can take beautiful pictures of their children at home right with their own camera or IPhone, which is why I like to post tips on how to improve your photography. I want everyone to have beautiful pictures of their children growing up. There are truly times though that I believe that you need a photographer such as a newborn photographer. So to illustrate I want to show a before and after image and how I got there. The first on the left is the straight out of camera and the final edit is the one on the left of sweet baby Mia.
Before I get into why I made the changes I did on the editing part, let me go over a bit about getting to this pose. Mia like many newborns was not having this whole photo shoot at all! It took me about 3 and half hours to get this photo and was the last one I took before we wrapped up. She finally slept around the last hour of her photo shoot so I had to hurry through the last hour so that we wouldn’t miss this golden opportunity.
For many parents right after birth, you are tired, stressed, may of had recent surgery from your c-section and your baby may have their days and nights confused so you are up all night tending to your little one. Probably around this time, you just don’t have the patience or brain power to think clearly or want to pose a newborn. Newborns are best photographed within the first 10 days as they are still very sleepy and like to curl up into these adorable poses. They also probably don’t have a lot of baby acme or other skin issues yet. Besides look at all these adorable props that go into a newborn photo shoot. Not only are you paying for a photographer to take the photos, you are also getting to use all their props and having the photographer professionally edit your portraits.
As I said the first 10 days of life, these moments pass by so quickly and you don’t want to forget them. I suggest scheduling with a South Jersey newborn photographer a few months ahead of your due date. Newborn photographers book out sometimes several months ahead.
Now on to the actual editing part. Is the left image pretty? Yes, but is it all it can be? Nope!
When I first look at the SOOC image, my eye immediately goes to that spot on the floor that is very highlighted. EEEEKKKK lets change that, the baby of course should be the main focus here! So I got rid of that bright spot by cloning other parts of the floor and overall made the floor darker to enhance the overall appearance and make that pink wrap pop and make the baby the center of focus. Many of my images can take up to 30 minutes to edit since they are all hand edited with love and I do not use any presets.
One of the other edits that really stands out is the added on headband. Though she looked beautiful without the headband, I wanted to make it a bit more feminine and bring a little more girl power into the image. Unfortunately, this is not as easy as copying and pasting a headband. I had to look for another shot where she was wearing the headband and where the light was coming from the right direction. It would not have made any sense if on the headband the light was coming from the right side. Then actually editing it onto her head takes a bit of time as you don’t want it to look fake at all.
Other big edit that you can see if the foot position. In the before image, you can see a grayed out part. You could see a bit of Mia’s lady parts and well lets leave those parts for her parent’s eyes only! So I had make the foot more bent and made her other leg closer so that you no longer see anything inappropriate. Most likely you will want to share these adorable photos with your friends and family on Facebook or have them hang in your house so lets keep things classy!
There are also some other basic edits such as getting rid of a bit of baby acme and overall smoothness of the newborn skin. She also had a tinge of redness that I adjusted just a bit by adding a little yellow, added a bit of sharpness, and enhanced those gorgeous lashes. So the moral of the story is don’t pass up the opportunity to get a professional to take pictures of your children every once in a while. I have had many people work with me that haven’t had family photos taken in years and then after they work with me and see their final product, they book me at least twice a year. If you find the right South Jersey photographer then you will find out that the money was well worth the investment and you will cherish those pictures forever.

Sweet baby Mia was born on March 24th and is such a little peanut weighing under 7 lbs. She was just 6 days old when I got to took these South Jersey newborn photos. Look how adorable her little tiny lips are! I love these little tiny details of newborns. Mia’s parents are now blessed with 3 beautiful little girls and feel that their family is now complete!
The best time to take newborn photos is usually within the first 10 days of life as the babies tend to sleep more and still like to curl up into those adorable newborn poses. Of course sometimes sessions can still take a few hours because we work around the baby’s schedule. Some babies sleep right through their newborn session without a problem and others needs many feedings and changings in between. Mia did make us work for it and finally fell asleep after 2 hours, but it was totally worth it. She is adorable! Taking newborn pictures is all about the patience and taking your time. You have patience and you will get some amazing photos.
Originally, I was supposed to take hospital pictures of Mia for a fresh 48 in South Jersey at Inspira Medical Center Vineland, NJ, but she had jaundice and was not able to be held for a period of time. It really shocked me because when I meet her, I was not able to tell at all from her skin tone. So when they asked me if we could change and take the more newborn stylized sessions, I agreed. I always do all I can to make sure my clients are happy and their needs are met.
Do you remember that cutie pie Melina that I took her smash cake photos of back in February? Well that is Mia’s cousin and her parent’s are also Mia’s Godparents. Its such an honor to be referred to family and friends. There is no higher praise, referrals mean the world to me! Mia’s mom is already talking about family portraits during the summer so she can showcase her 3 beautiful daughters and we’ll also get to see Melina again at the end of April for her family’s Cherry Blossom photo shoot with her 3 older brothers!
I can’t even choose which photo I like better, black and white or color. The key to a great black and white photo is good contrast and lighting so it really excites me when I can’t even choose. Comment with which photo you like better, black and white or color!

As you can see from my lack of blogging, the spring season is already in full swing and I am getting very busy. I am already booked for most of April, but do have one open spot for my cherry blossom family sessions the last weekend in April. I also already have a few slots filled in May so if you are looking for a children’s or family portrait session, I would email quickly so that you can get your desired date before its gone!
About two weeks ago, Rita messaged me asking for my to take her head shot for an upcoming excerpt in July’s issue of Design NJ magazine. This will be her second time being published. Sometime during the summer, her home will also be featured in the magazine. She is an amazing interior designer so make sure you check out her excerpt when it comes out! Knowing this amazing lady for almost half of my life when Rita contacted me to photograph her head shot, I jumped at the chance! I couldn’t wait to get a sneak peek of her custom built home and to see how she decorated through out. She gave me a quick tour of her home at the end of the portrait session and it is absolutely gorgeous!!
The above photo of Rita is the head shot that will be featured in the magazine. I am so excited to be able to say I’ll be a published photographer! Woot woot!
Look at how pretty that door is behind her. She then had these floor length windows on each side. She loved these photos so much and felt beautiful. This makes me so happy to be able to show people how beautiful they are and how others see them too. She was a little stiff at first as I feel most adults are, but then she started giving me some sass and we knew we were on the right page. I especially love the one with the white background below. This is how I feel I view her. Shes the person with lots of personality and brightens up the room when she walks in. We have already started talking about a family beach session this summer!
And of course, we needed one photo with her family of cat. She has three cats that live with her and the one she rescued from the wild. She is such a great lady and deserves all the good things that come her way!
Thank you again for letting me take your portraits. You are such a beautiful woman and I am happy to have met you!
South Jersey sessions are booking out quickly. Make sure to book your family session soon! I can’t wait for the cherry blossoms! Ekkkk

Salwach Photography is owned by South Jersey raised Samantha, usually referred to as Sam. I am mother to the world’s most beautiful little girl. She is the one who inspires me everyday to make the most out of life. She is also the one who made me push myself to finally follow my dreams and become a photographer. I wish I had a really unique story of why I became a photographer, but its pretty standard.
Years before I seriously considered becoming a photographer, I would stare at newborn and wedding photos and just soak up every detail loving these images. I worked in Human Resources at a staffing company in Philly at the time and decided to stay home when my wonderful husband and I had our first born. I just could not get enough of photographing each little detail of her tiny toes and hands and wanted to take amazing pictures like the ones I always saw online. From there I got my first DSLR when she was around one and went to work following her around like the dedicated mom-erottzi I was.
I am so glad that I decided to become a family photographer as it was a dream I guess I always had, but never really though of as something I could obtain. The safe route always seemed like the easier path and starting my own business was scary. I will always thank my little Brooke Lynn for constantly making and continually making myself into the person I want her to look up to which includes following your dreams and knowing nothing is too big to accomplished.
